The Appeal
The Audi Quattro is widely regarded as one of the most important performance cars of the modern era. By proving that four-wheel drive could be a decisive advantage on the rally stage as well as the road, it helped transform perceptions of all-wheel-drive technology, taking it far beyond its previous association with utility and off-road use.
Its impact was felt most dramatically in world rallying, where Audi’s turbocharged five-cylinder, four-wheel-drive competition cars changed the direction of the sport. The road-going Quattro brought much of that same thinking to the public road, combining muscular turbocharged performance, all-weather traction and a distinctive five-cylinder soundtrack in a package that would influence performance-car engineering for decades.
Described by the seller as a “very original 1983 model”, this example is finished in black with a notably period brown and green upholstered interior. It is offered from 10-year current ownership, during which time various parts have been replaced, including a significant portion of the fuel system. The boot floor has also been fabricated and welded, while the underbody has been rust-proofed and sealed.
With its crisp presentation, long-term current ownership and iconic turbocharged five-cylinder character, this quattro should hold strong appeal for marque enthusiasts. Whether enjoyed on spirited weekend drives, shown at events or kept as part of a collection of landmark performance cars, it represents one of Audi’s most significant and enduringly desirable models.
