1983 BMW R 80 G/S

Pre-bids

 Highlights

  • Very authentic example, in its original specification
  • In the current owner's hands for around 12 years
  • Two previous registered owners before the current owner

The appeal

The BMW R 80 G/S is one of the most iconic adventure bikes of its era. With its air-cooled 800cc horizontally opposed twin, upright riding position and reputedly tough mechanicals, it became a versatile machine, equally at home on long-distance rides as on less conventional routes. Its concept did much to pave the way for big-capacity trail bikes, a category that remains hugely popular today.

This green 1983 example has been in the hands of its current owner since 2014. Before him, the bike is said to have had only two registered owners. Presented in a condition very close to original, it retains a light patina that reflects its age without, according to the seller, detracting from its overall appearance.

Regularly maintained, it comes with three recent invoices. The bodywork is described as sound and in very good condition, while the seat and mechanicals also appear well kept. A bike with character for fans of classic BMWs and historic trail bikes.

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as written off following a total loss at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle's status, and it is always worthwhile to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
