The Appeal

It was on the Monte Carlo’s ragged, twisting tracks that the nimble Mini earned its reputation as a giant killer. 30 years on from Paddy Hopkirk’s win, Mini celebrated with a special edition. It’s one of the best limited-run cars. 1,200 were built, 1,000 of them despatched to eager Japanese buyers equipped with factory air conditioning.

Many of these high specification cars have returned to the UK, and this is one of them. It spent its life on the nation’s salt-free roads until 2022, when it returned to the UK. Powered by the 1,275cc fuel-injected engine and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, its presents very well and its factory air conditioning system works correctly. It is a nicely detailed car with extended arches, 10in wheels and a Monte Carlo roof rack.

The suspension has been renewed and the vendor notes the car drives with the go-kart-like feel the Mini is celebrated for. With just 17,000 km on the clock and current MOT to May 2027, this is a very tidy example of these sought-after special editionls.
