The Appeal
The MGF marked MG's eagerly awaited return to the sports car market in the mid-1990s, and the VVC (Variable Valve Control) variant was the one to have, producing around 143 bhp from its mid-mounted 1.8-litre K-Series engine. Its unusual mid-engine layout gave the MGF a distinctive driving character and sharp handling that set it apart from its affordable roadster rivals.
This 1997 example is finished in British Racing Green over a black interior and comes with a hardtop, broadening its appeal as a usable year-round sports car. The vendor states that it starts and drives very well, and rates the mechanical condition as very good. Crucially, the cambelt and water pump, well-known maintenance priorities for the K-Series engine, were reportedly replaced in 2022. A folder of invoices accompanies the car, and it holds a valid Dutch technical inspection until May 2027. The bodywork and paintwork show age-commensurate wear with a few small imperfections and scratches, while the interior presents well with only slight wear noted to the driver's seat.
