The Appeal
The original 986 Boxster ushered in a new era for Porsche, one not entirely focussed around the 911. By blending style and components from the 911 with a thoroughly different mid-engined character, it gave buyers a serious alternative to the rear-engined icon.
As enthusiasts return to early cars, the 2.5L flat six stands out. These cars have a stronger dual-row bearing system that makes them much more reliable than later and larger engines. Not that it should matter much with this well kept Midnight Blue 199 car because it has only covered 35,000 miles from new. The low mileage can be traced back to 2000 when the car was extensively rebuilt by a qualified engineer following an engine fire. Subsequently it was taken to Mallorca in 2011, where it lived a lightly used life in the sun. In 2022 it returned to the UK and was acquired by the seller. He tells us that he has spent over £2,500 on light recommissioning, including gear selector cable, suspension bushes, roof drip trays and seals.
The smart paintwork is matched to a well kept grey leather interior, featuring sports seats nd original Porsche stereo. The car also features the versatile 5spd Tiptronic auto box.
