'66 LHD Split Screen Camper
'A carefully considered and characterful vintage camper'
Imported into the UK from Maine, New England, in 2018, this beautiful 1966 LHD Split Screen Camper underwent a full restoration in 2019, carried out by the skilled team at Lone Star VW in Horsford, Norwich. The work included a full bare-shell strip-down, allowing for a proper inspection and rebuild with lasting quality in mind. The result is a carefully considered and characterful camper that still retains much of its vintage charm, while benefiting from sensible upgrades.
The van now runs a newly fitted 1600cc engine (Displaying 74, 552 miles, non-verified) that has only covered minimal mileage since installation. Mechanically sound and visually timeless, it’s been set up to enjoy the road with features like a Retro Sounds stereo, safari front windows, and pop-out side glass for excellent ventilation on summer drives.
The van has also been soundproofed for a quieter, more enjoyable drive and benefits from modern comforts such as USB/ 12V sockets, an upgraded windscreen washer system, and lots of neatly integrated storage. The bespoke headlining and fold-down table finish off a cosy, practical interior that makes this a wonderful van for weekends away, daily drives—or even weddings, as it’s proudly served in that role. The back seats fold down into a large single bed, just enough room for two depending on how cosy you want to me! :) Couldbe turned into a ¾ fold down bed in time if you needed more room.
