1967 MG Midget Mk III
Produced between 1961 and 1979, the MG Midget is rightly regarded as one of the great British small sports cars, offering lively performance, simple engineering and enormous charm. Derived originally from the Mk II Austin-Healey Sprite, the Midget evolved through four distinct iterations during its long production life.
Early cars were fitted with the 948cc engine, later enlarged to 1098cc, before the introduction of the 1275cc power unit in late 1966. Developing around 65 bhp, the 1275cc Midget offered genuinely spirited performance for its day, with brisk acceleration and a top speed tantalisingly close to the then-coveted “ton”.
In our opinion, the Mk III represents the most attractive of the series, retaining the traditional MG grille along with chrome bonnet and side mouldings. When specified with wire wheels, as this example is, the proportions and detailing are particularly pleasing.
Finished in classic British Racing Green, this MG Midget was the subject of a major restoration approximately 14 years ago and is presented today in excellent condition, retaining its original specification. The hood is a recent replacement and fits extremely well, and the correct hood cover is also supplied.
The car is accompanied by a substantial history file, including the original Driver’s Handbook and photographic records documenting the restoration work. Adding further appeal, this delightful MG Midget also benefits from a most distinctive registration number.
