Rolls-Royce’s mainstay model for 15 years, the Silver Shadow is an exceptional machine, marrying quality, charm and comfort as no other car of the time. Announced in 1965, it was arguably the first Rolls-Royce conceived with an eye to it being driven by its owner rather than by a chauffeur – and in abandoning the stately and very British lines of the Silver Cloud, it was instrumental in bringing Rolls-Royce into the modern era. The model was a success, but to keep it competitive, whilst awaiting its replacement by the Silver Spirit in 1980, a modest update took place in 1977. Announced at the March 1977 Geneva show, the Silver Shadow II featured more prominent square-cut bumpers, along with rack-and-pinion steering and tauter front suspension.
The Silver Shadow II presented here was first registered in the United States in 1980. As witnessed by the numerous bills that come with the car, the Shadow had a single owner between 2000 and 2013, in which year it was imported into France. Based in New York State, he had the car regularly maintained by British car specialist International Motor Car Repair. After going to its new French keeper in 2013 it passed to its current owner in 2016. Soberly finished in burgundy with hand-painted pinstriping, the body is in good original order and the Connolly leather interior is in very good condition. Since acquiring the car, the owner has carried out basic maintenance to the value of 5000€. Amongst the work carried out has been a complete overhaul of the braking system and the replacement of the steering rack.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on June the 23th, 2019.
