What an enchanting little motor car!
The Singer LE mans – Essentially a more highly tuned version of the Singer Nine Sports roadster boasting 34BHP from its tuned 972cc Overhead cam engine along with various aesthetic changes from the “Nine” such as the lack of running boards, external fuel tank and twin mounted spare wheels on the rear. Although the “Le mans” never experienced success at the track that gave the car the name – The model did experience success in rally’s such as the Liege-Rome- Liege , Alpine cup and various Hillclimbs too!
This car however has experienced a more “humble” life being only knowingly used on the road. With the vehicle there is a history file right back to 1956 in the form of a “buff” logbook along with various images of the car in period, purchase invoices and also maintenance records too.
Looking at the Log book it is apparent that the car has resided in the north Nottinghamshire area for the majority of its life with the last owner having owned the vehicle since the early 2000?.
What is so truly wonderful about this car is the feeling of “patina” – This vehicle is by no means perfect but it does present wonderfully well with the feeling of an “older” restoration having been completed in the 1980’s.
The seats look to be original and are in fantastic condition along with all of the original wet weather gear also being present too. The inline 972cc 4 cylinder engine pulls fantastically well utilising the 4 speed manual gearbox without issue too. The brakes stop the vehicle with ample affect and the electrics work perfectly having been converted to 12v
Most recent works undertaken include the refurbishment of the tacho and speedo (including the speedo drive) along with a services and refresh of the twin carburettors.
