motodrome are pleased to offer this iconic 1994 Camel Trophy Land Rover Defender 110 300TDi Station Wagon 5 seater.
The 1998 Camel Trophy, held in the Tierra del Fuego in South America, was the last time Land Rover were involved in the competition. It was a bit of a brave departure for Land Rover, in that the competition vehicles were the recently introduced Freelander models.
However, Freelanders weren’t big enough to carry all the kit required for the event, so Land Rover Special Vehicles took 27 Defender 110’s off the line and converted them to be used as support vehicles, following behind the Freelanders, and R158 CDU is one of them, used by the team from the Netherlands.
26 years on and 158 presents as a superbly well-preserved and very original example of a genuine Camel, which, considering it’s early life of over 6000km of rugged terrain in a South American winter, is really impressive.
It’s well-preserved state was probably helped by it having just one owner, Kings School Canterbury Rowing Club between 2000 and 2013. The V5 shows just 3 previous owners.
Odometer reading 182000 miles, and in the last owner’s care, apart from general servicing, it’s had new brake hydraulics and cambelt replacement at 180193m in May 2022.
