The Appeal
Based on the Jaguar 420, this is an early example of a Daimler Sovereign. It is a very comfortable and capable executive saloon car, which was aimed squarely at the discerning end of the market.
This particular Sovereign has previously spent time registered in the Netherlands, and has been returned to the UK. It is believed that it retains its original number plate.
The car has previously received extensive work, documented in the form of hand-written service records and invoices. More recently, it has received electric seats and a retrimmed interior. Its next owner will be able to decide whether to return the car to its original interior or keep it as it is.
In all, this is a thoroughly respectable saloon, which features the popular XK straight-six engine and classic Daimler styling.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered 19th December 1968
- Road Tax and MOT exempt
- Formerly registered in the Netherlands
- Re-registered in the UK with what is believed to be its original registration number

The Interior
- Retrimmed leather interior

- Burr walnut dashboard
- Central locking on the front doors

- The dashboard top looks to be free from cracks or UV damage
- The carpets are well worn and could benefit from a clean
- Spacious boot to the rear, with some spare parts, including the original steering wheel
The Exterior
- Thought to have been restored previously
- Some scratches, chips and cracks in the paint
- A little bubbling in places
- Some patches of corrosion can be seen
- Some of the chrome plating is pitted

- Some surface corrosion to the underside, and the ‘crows feet’ are said to be ingot condition and original
- There is some filler known to be in a rear wing
- Running on steel wheels with chrome trims and chrome hubcaps
The Mechanics
- 4.2-litre straight-six XK engine
- Automatic transmission
- Shares the same suspension setup as the E-Type
- Said to start easily and run well
- The only issue reported is that the engine can be started in any gear, as the interlock switch has failed
- No other mechanical issues reported
- New battery fitted in 2021
- The prop shaft has reportedly been renewed
- Oil pressure said to be normal
- Extensive hand-written servicing records on file
