Another Pininfarina design classic, this time for Fiat and their very pretty 124 sports car, and a car that was never officially available in the UK.

With disc brakes all round, an agile chassis and a variety of willing engines these lovely looking 2+2 convertibles were highly popular Stateside and in 1978 it sported a more powerful 2.0 litre engine with fuel injection being added in 1979.

First registered on the 1st January 1982 the car was supplied new to its first and only lady owner in Palm Springs. Keeping the car for nearly 38 years prior to eventually selling the car it was professionally restored in its original Bronze colour and sold to its next owner here in the UK, being imported and registered with the DVLA on the 1st March 2020.

It came over in pretty much the same condition that you see today with only a few areas being attended to since its arrival. The injection system has been overhauled and tuned, a new cam belt fitted, a new steel Fiat exhaust fitted, a new thermostat fitted and of course the headlights were changed to suit the UK, at the same time fitting new headlight surrounds.

Used sparingly in France by the current owner it has recently been serviced and is ready for its next owner.

The car comes with its importation certificate, a V5c showing one UK owner, 2 full sets of keys and a full 12 months MOT.

The vinyl seats and interior are in pretty good condition for the car’s age and it really just needs a good valet and tidy up to bring it up to a more presentable condition.

The driver’s door pocket has lost its elasticity and there are holes where the speakers have been removed and the carpets are looking rather worn in places, but these are all things that are easily to address and other than some unfortunate cracks in the dashboard top, the interior has a great aged patina and a great classic design and feel.

The Bronze metallic paintwork is in generally good condition, probably benefitting from a full re-spray during its Stateside restoration and there is only a small area of bubbling paint to be found at the bottom of the passenger door.

The hood is in great shape too, both internally and externally, again probably being renewed during restoration, and the mechanism works smoothly and easily

The non-original Minilite wheels are in very nice un-scuffed condition and all wear good tyres. 

One of the front fog-lights has a cracked glass, the chrome strip on the top of the front bumper looks to have a small crack in it and there is a small chip in the windscreen glass.

The chrome trim is actually in fairly good shape but there are places where it is beginning to show signs of pitting and the owner advises that the springs that hold the boot up when open are a little weak so it won’t stay fully open, but this could also be due to the additional weight of the non-standard luggage rack that has been fitted.

The boot is nice and dry with no signs of any water ingress and under the bonnet everything looks nice and tidy with no obvious signs of any oil or coolant leaks.

The owner informs us that the car starts and drives really nicely with the 5-speed gearbox and 2.0 litre engine making it a delight to drive and keep up with modern day traffic.

Everything is reported to be working correctly with no issues, other than the rear boot springs, to be concerned with.

The Fiat 124 Spider is a very pretty 2+2 open-topped small sports car with oodles of charm, character and some nice touches of Italian flair both inside and outside.

It has great lines and an almost timeless design and should tick many boxes for those looking for some fun open-topped classic car motoring this spring and summer. 

You’re unlikely to see many others of these on the road either, so this surely presents a great opportunity for the right buyer.
