The Appeal

This example has been very well cared for, but sadly - as London becomes less and less welcoming to low slung vehicles - has been SORN for 18 months. The seller has kept it in top condition and, over the past few years, treated it to some subtle but meaningful upgrades. A fantastic example that’s raring to hit the road again.

The History and Paperwork

• 2.8i model that was fitted with the Turbo Technics Garrett T3 conversion in 1986
• Car indicates 14,267 miles, however it has been ‘around the clock’ according to service history
• As a result its real mileage is 114,267 miles
• Has been in current ownership for 12 years
• Large lever arch box file of documentation
• Original service book, stamped throughout the car’s life
• Original Ford motorist’s guide
• Certificate of authenticity and insurance for the Turbo Technics upgrade
• Impressive selection of invoices
• SORN for 18 months but kept in good order
• Last MOT in August 2020 with no advisories

The Interior

• Nicely appointed - and distinctly 80s - interior
• Part-leather Recaro seats in very good order
• Seats have been treated bi-annually with Autoglym leathercare
• No rips or tears, though some patina to the bolsters
• Dashboard is clean and well kept, with some modifications including:
  • White dials for dashboard instruments
  • Blue instrument panel lighting, brighter than the factory-fitted lights
  • Clarion CZ500 head unit with CD, USB, FM and Bluetooth, fitted inside the glove box
• Carpets in good order, always protected by mats
• Headlining is good with two small holes at the sunroof
• Gearbox and handbrake gaiters replaced and look in fine order
• Other upgrades include:
  • New sound system installed throughout
  • New parcel shelf fitted with no speaker holes, sourced from Capri Club International 
  • Electric window kit for driver and front passenger window installed
  • Courtesy door/puddle lights in red
  • Ambient strip lighting in the front footwells
  • Chrome 2.8 injection sill plates
  • High level rear brake light
• Round the back, the boot is in excellent order with a good spare wheel

The Exterior 

• The vendor reports that the car has been dry stored throughout his twelve years of ownership
• Rosso red paintwork is well presented
• Attractive injection decals throughout
• However, the bodywork is beginning to show its age
• Some rust bubbles on the rear arches
• The vendor reports these were present 12 years ago and haven’t developed
• Some corrosion on the lower-rear-quarter panels 
• Small patch on the bonnet just above the grille
• Three minor dings on the offside door
• None of these detract too heavily from the car’s appearance
• Headlight lenses in good condition with no chips or fractures
• Trim is pleasantly presented with no major faults
• The car is sitting on its 7-spoke 15” Brooklands alloys which do carry some bubbles
• Shod in a quality set of tyres 
• Underneath, the car is very clean and well-presented with only surface corrosion

  • Replacement Hella Glass Headlamps 
  • Xenon HID headlight kit
  • Bonnet gas strut kit Installed
  • Tailgate gas strut kit Installed

The Mechanics 

• Powered by the impressive 2.8L Cologne V6 Powerplant
• 5-speed manual transmission
• Fitted with the 1986 Turbo Technics Garrett T3 Turbo Conversion, uprating to 200bhp
• Car has been SORN for 18 months but starts, runs and drives well 
• Plenty of regular work including multiple upgrades:
  • Replaced distributor cap replaced.
  • Replaced Ignition coil.
  • Period correct NGK spark plugs fitted
  • Replaced Battery (bosch heavy duty)
  • Battery reportedly disconnected whenever the car is out of use
  • Replacement throttle cable
  • Water pump replaced
  • Heavy duty braided fuel hose installed
  • Bosch heating matrix replaced
  • Replacement front springs – one inch lower than standard 
  • However these have less flex, assisting the car over speed humps
  • Replacement steering rack with reconditioned unit
  • Track control arm poly bush kit installed
  • Anti-roll bar poly bush kit installed
  • Aluminium radiator fitted (sourced from Tickover Capri specialist in Dartford)
  • JS Silicone hose replacement kit for both radiator and ancillaries
  • High specification brake kit upgrade
  • K&N performance air filter
  • 16" Electric fan fitted with adjustable thermostat
• Car will come with extra components including:
  • Mishimoto High flow Race Line 16" heavy duty fan
  • Rear venetian blind kit imported from French specialist company Gradulux
  • Bosch wiper blades boxed
  • Original viscous fan and steel radiator for retrofitting if requested
  • Various other items such as fan/alternator belts, spare bulbs etc
• No reported mechanical faults, leaks, banging or smoke from the engine
