Appeal

Launched in 1989, the Mazda MX5 has become a firm favourite the world over. The first-generation models were known as the MX5 (NA) for the US and European markets and sold in Japan badged as the Eunos Roadster – which is what we have here.

The front engined, rear wheel drive configuration combined with a well-designed and engineered chassis, re-introducing the roadster concept to a younger generation and allowing them to experience "wind in the hair" motoring. Winning a number of accolades since its debut, the Eunos / MX5 has gone on to become the world’s bestselling sports car.

This excellent early example of the Eunos has benefited from having a number of enthusiastic UK owners, all of which have cherished and enjoyed their ownership experience.

This original interior shows little signs of wear, with no tears, rips or ragged edges to the seats and the dash appearing to be in exceptional condition. The carpets and door cards follow suit and show little signs of use throughout.

We’re told by the owner that all the switches and dials work as expected, including the electric windows which have both recently had new regulators fitted.

There’s a classic period Panasonic CD/radio installed, with a switch activated electric aerial and, for extra security, the owner has fitted a fob operated engine immobiliser.

The body and paintwork on this Eunos presents exceptionally well. The current owner describes the car when he bought it back in 2013 as being in exceptional condition. However, being the fastidious man that he is, he’s been seeking further improvements ever since.

The car was WaxOyl treated soon after purchase and we're told it has only been driven during summer months, being stored between October and March in dry, heated premises.

During June 2020, he entrusted MX5 City to carry out a full strip down and replacement of the front wings with genuine Mazda parts. The rest of the shell was primed and resprayed in the original colour. Waxoyl was also re-applied to the chassis, suspension, wheel arches etc. The alloy wheels were re-finished in silver with full documentation for all works carried out.

Since then, in March 2022, a ULTIMaxx Ceramic Protection coating has been applied by TT Autocare when they also valeted the car throughout , valeting again in March ’23.

The vinyl roof is believed to be original and in good condition, and the vendor tells us there are no leeks or gaps against door windows.

There is an outdoor cover available with the car.

Mechanically very quiet , this Eunos started easily and ran faultlessly throughout the photoshoot, and we’re informed by the vendor that it is an absolute pleasure to drive. He commented that it runs smoothly and with very precise steering and brakes.

He did point out that there is a second cooling fan assembly fitted to the engine, enabling the addition of an air conditioning system if required.

This Eunos was bought by an enthusiastic owner who has worked hard to enhance its condition whilst retaining originality – we think he’s certainly succeeded in his quest. We think you'll struggle to find another as good as this.
