After eight years on sale, the Jaguar “XJ40” XJ6 had got better with every nip, tuck, tweak or facelift. Indeed, by 1994 when Jaguar was readying itself to launch the all-new “X300” model – itself a heavily facelifted XJ40 – it had morphed into one of the best luxury cars that money could buy.
But Jaguar still needed to sell cars as it readied itself for the new model, so in that final year one last special edition model was launched. The XJ6 Gold was essentially a base model 3.2-litre XJ6, but with leather upholstery, automatic transmission, burr walnut trim and 16-inch alloy wheels as standard. It featured gold plated ‘Jaguar’ and ‘XJ6 Gold’ badges on the boot, a gold ‘Growler’ logo set into the grille and unique ‘Kiwi’ alloy wheels, which went on to be a feature of the X300.
In total, just over 1,000 Golds were built, of which less than 50 remain taxed according to DVLA records, making this a very rare and increasing collectable car. It’s also the rarest colour – most were Regency Red but this is finished in very smart Sapphire Blue.N7SCbzyKS2xqWzP3wwixT6nvsdopu5xh85A5UbY6.jpeg284.29 KB
As modern classics go the Jaguar XJ40 is one of the biggest risers in recent times, with the model attracting a very strong enthusiast following and the best examples selling very strongly indeed. This one is a real gem of a car - a low mileage example with a comprehensive history of servicing and repairs, all its original books and paperwork and presented in an unusual colour scheme. It’s in fantastic condition and has a fresh MOT certificate for added peace of mind. Plus, it’s the ultra-rare run-out special edition. This is an XJ40 with a huge amount going for it.
