The Appeal

Mercedes-Benz began the process of bringing AMG in-house at the turn of the Millennium, first taking a controlling stake in 1999 and then acquiring full ownership in 2005. This period saw an acceleration in AMG models, among which was the excellent SL55 AMG, based on the R230 platform.

The SL55 AMG represents the pinnacle of early 2000s German engineering, combining luxurious grand touring capabilities with strong performance. This supercharged V8 convertible delivered 493 horsepower when new, making it one of the most powerful production cars of its era.
