Launched in September 1998, the second generation of Jeep Cherokee, the redesigned WJ 1999 model shared just 127 parts with its predecessor (mostly fasteners).

The European model was coded WG. The spare tire was relocated from the side of the cargo compartment to under the floor. (Like the 1998 MY ZJ, the rear tailgate glass opened separately.)

It was and still is considered a family favourite especially in the USA and the Jeep Cherokee name has not stopped with Jeep now on their 5th Generation.

The current owner took the car on 6 months ago and has spent his time with it bringing it back to its former glory.

The first registered owner was the dealer who then sold it new to its true first owner who had the car for 17 years until Alzheimer’s took away his right to drive and he had to sadly let it go which is when the current owner purchased it with a view to cleaning it up.

The car has all of the normal paperwork, V5C etc. Including a fresh 12 months MOT and service history from Chrysler/Jeep dealerships.

The car has been serviced in March 2022, unfortunately beyond the service book stamps there is a gap of proven service invoices.

The car also has its original manuals and stereo booklet.

The interior is light grey leather with wood and Alcantara accents. The interior overall is in very good condition with minimal wear as to be expected with this mileage. It has the original stereo and there is a 10 disc cd changer also.

There is a full size spare in the boot under the floor. A dog has been carried in the boot hence the dog guard.

As part of the car being given a mini refresh recently, the bumpers front and rear have benefitted from fresh paint.

Two recently fitted brand new front tyres have been added to make a good set of matching Goodyear Wrangler HP All Weather tyres. All 4 alloys have been recently refurbished and new windscreen wipers fitted.

The cars had a full machine polish on the exterior.

Mechanically the car needed a few updates to refresh things when the current owner took over from the elderly gentleman who had owned the car for 17 years so the following have been done recently: 

 • New gas struts on the rear window and also rear boot lid

 • New heater blend doors as they had failed (a common issue on this model.)

 • The air con has been regassed

 • A subtle exhaust modification has been undertaken that allows some of the V8 to be heard, it provides a deeper sound while still remaining subtle

 • New remote key fob from Jeep

The Jeep drives well, the engine is hardly run in given the very low mileage, the gearbox is very smooth. The suspension also reflects the low mileage and soaks up any road imperfections with ease.

The sought after high output 4.7 V8 gives it extra power which has a surprising turn of speed when pushed. Unfortunately there is a fault, the cruise control turns on but doesn’t activate, this is a known Jeep weakness due to it being vacuum operated.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been around for some while, Jeep are on their 5th generation no less and its still seems to be as popular as ever especially in the American market. 

Over here in the UK, it’s a rarer beast and one with the high spec and V8 engine like this is rare still. This car has been cared for by its longest serving custodian and only given up due to health reasons. 

The current owner has taken great care to breath life back into the vehicle and keep it as original as possible.
