The Background
Based on Triumphs modern incarnation of a classic sixties speedster, the Bonneville T100, this rare one of 50 Paul Smith multi-Union versions is a modern and chic motorcycle that stands out from the crowd. This version got a few special one off additions, these include the painted badge, the tank, side panels and the pinstriped mudguards.
Fundamentally a T100 it has the 865cc air cooled parallel twin engine twined to a five-speed gearbox. With around 61hp this bike shifts you down the road at some rate of knots, doing this effortlessly and with great style.FK3VaJSRsMPHGTBiiwKb4tT4zenHUkR4EgDD7xsM.jpeg2.07 MB
The History
Being such a special bike you can imagine that this Bonneville has had a special story. Built in around 2005 this bike was a special collaboration between the high-end designer Paul Smith and the infamous Triumph motorcycle company. Benefitting from a unique union flag design on the fuel tank and other little touches this bike now stands out from the crowd.
This specific bike was used as the press bike to promote this collaboration and as such is the one you will see in all the press pictures from the time. From the studio it went on a tour of UK Triumph dealers and ultimately ended up in the window of Harrods, where this bike was put up as a raffle prize.
The current owner saw the bike in the automotive section of the Daily Mail and set about trying to procure one. They become the second person to put a deposit down, it would later transpire that Triumph had somehow over sold the allocation. As a peacekeeping mission Triumph offered up this raffle bike from Harrods to the current owner and they accepted.
Taking delivery in 2006 this bike has since been dry stored and left as it was delivered with only half a mile on the odometer. It has never been ridden or registered on UK roads and only a handful of people know of its existence. GNGzah2ddQ77g6CUiVetPDyZUFUF76mXbMLYhIzV.jpeg956.1 KB
The Paperwork
Because this bike has never been on the roads there is no V5 but you do get the application form to register the bike. Due to this bikes stored life there aren’t many items of paperwork like MOT certificates, Service receipts or any other type of Invoice. This however is expected because of its life.
What you do get with the bike is a comprehensive Motorcycle service manual, the original owners handbook. As you would imagine there are no service stamps in the service book, but this is obviously due to the fact that this bike has never seen the road.
A few other items of paperwork that come with the bike include newspaper clippings about this bike, a few pieces of correspondence between the current owner and the Triumph dealer where this bike came from and it also has the original bill of sale.
You will also get little bits of memorabilia that came with the bike when the current owner obtained it all those years ago. These include a laptop/document bag, Triumph Riders Association keyring and other little bits.eMbTQzU4A29KxrlvnFRhbtWtEFEYc0ntCG8J3eWU.jpeg1.88 MB
The condition
This bike is a truly stunning looking bike, designed initially by triumph as a retro throwback to their classic bikes of old Paul Smith was then tasked to give a bit of noughties pizzazz and this is exactly what he achieved. This bike is the ‘multi-union’ version this one came with a special painted Union Flag on the fuel tanks, side panels and mudguards. With these bespoke edition this bike it will now stand out in a collection of other motorcycles.
With this bike having been dry stored for practically its whole life you are correct in thinking that everything from the special painted Triumph badge to the chrome engine covers are in excellent condition. There are no marks on the bike at all and everything is in ‘as delivered’ condition. If you look under the pinstriped mudguards there are tell tale signs that this bike has genuinely never been near a UK road and as a result it is presented in pristine condition.
The original Yuasa battery comes with the bike within its original cardboard packaging and hasn’t been in place for some time, if you look at the battery box under the seat it is immaculate. There are also the two chromed mirrors that the current owner has never fitted due to the bikes life in storage.
Overall every single of the bespoke and factory features of this bike are presented in immaculate condition with the brightwork being stunning, no marks on the paint, no wear of the handlebars or seat. This is quite possibly one of the cleanest bikes up for sale.KwagPwh6MEeajIFTw5K8APVEjUevtQ0nSP6Xc6Vi.jpeg1.93 MB
The Mechanics
This Paul Smith limited edition bike is based on Triumphs now famous Bonneville T100 model, so all of the underpinnings are the same as this.
Because this bike is still in delivery condition it hasn’t ever been started or ridden so if the new owner decides they want to do this they will need to get a specialist in the make sure that everything is lubricated properly and then subsequently it will need to go through its running in period.
Due to its lack of running or having any fluids near it you can imagine that the engine looks immaculate and clean. With it being dry stored too you shouldn’t have to worry about any potential surprises that you may find if the bike hasn’t been stored properly.a6gbrnFO5zmr9SQPRoEYAZjx3eAWRzfhLxPNA4Gr.jpeg2.18 MB
The Appeal
As you can tell from the photos and the writing this bike is one truly rare and special bike. With this bike having such a special history with Harrods, Paul Smith, and Triumph this is one of the most special of the 50 ever made. With this also being Number 0 out of the 50 it is super rare and special.
With the current owner having been an excellent custodian of this bike, with their biggest part being storing it properly in a dry environment, they have extended the life of this bike so that other people may get to enjoy it as much as they have.
Whether the new owner stores this bike within their collection or uses it on the road this is hands down one of the most special bikes on the UK market now. It can be bought as a piece of automotive art, investment piece or bit of fun on the side and it will exceed at all of the above.
