MG Midget MkI (1st Month of Production) & Fully Restored
The Mk1 Midget was announced at the end of June 1961 as an upmarket version of the Mk2 Sprite. The running gear was virtually identical to the previous “Frogeye” offering an engaging drive at an affordable price and the car proved an instance success with press and public alike.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer for sale an extremely rare MG Midget Mk1 (GAN1) from the first month of production – she was first registered on 10 July 1961 and is one of the first 1, 000 built. The car is in superb condition having been restored some years ago by a previous owner and is in show condition with excellent paintwork and panel fit.
The car has the correct 948cc engine, detailed engine bay, original Bakelite steering wheel, correct early Frogeye shape dashboard, steel wheels, early bucket seats and full weather equipment including tonneau cover and side-screens.
The history folder indicates that the Midget was recommissioned in 2007 after a period of storage. Over the past six years the lady owner has had new hoses, clutch & clutch slave cylinder, fuel pump, ignition kit & coil, brake overhaul, starter ring gear, rear springs and tyres fitted – she wanted the car to be super reliable/ safe as possible
On the road the MG drives as good as she looks with pin-point steering, willing engine and superb exhaust note. Paper work includes a summary of previous owners and a variety of old MOT’s & invoices.
Early cars in excellent condition/ to original specification are extreme rare. This stunning MG is ready to use for the summer and will provide lots of enjoyment (and be an excellent investment) to the lucky new owner.
