Description
Designed in-house by Citroën's chief designer Robert Opron, the SM bears a vague family resemblance to both the Citroen DS and the Maserati Mistral.
It was a high-performance Coupé produced between 1970 - 1975 and combined many unusual and innovative features which are only just becoming commonplace in cars today. It borrows heavily from the innovations introduced on the Citroen DS by including hydro-pneumatic self-leveling suspension and self-leveling headlights that swivel with the steering and it demonstrated just how much power and performance could be accommodated in a front-wheel drive design including a combination of comfort, sharp handling and braking that was not available in any other car at the time.
This lovely example was sold new and first registered in the UK on 27th July 1973 and is finished in Silver Metallic with a Blue Leather interior and has the Maserati 2. 7 Litre V6 Fuel injected Engine, rare 5 Speed Manual Gearbox (most were Auto's), Power Steering, Electric Windows, self levelling suspension and its original steel wheels with full face wheel trims.
This car was purchased by the current owner in February 2011 and it has now covered a genuine 76, 000 miles from new with a full and comprehensive service history including invoices dating right back to the 1970's, MOT certificates from the 1980's to date, its original Manual, various books and magazines that this actual car has been featured in plus Citroen SM Club documentation. It has also only had 2 owners in the last 16 years!
The car has been maintained by Citroen SM specialist Andrew Brodie Engineering Ltd since the early 2000's and the current owner has spent just over £4, 000 with them during his ownership on servicing and repairs. It has recently had some cosmetic paint repairs carried out and is now in lovely condition throughout and drives superbly.
This is most probably one of the best examples currently for sale in the country!
