The MK3 versions of the MG Midget were produced from 1966 until 1974 with various upgrades in 1970 and 1972 when the round wheel arch cars arrived. These cars were the most developed of the “A” series Midgets and the last ones built before the rubber bumper cars arrived in late 1974.
This car is a 1973 Midget in its original colour of “Blaze” with a black interior. It is an older, ground up restoration and is fitted with various upgrades including a Ford type 9 5speed gearbox, brake servo, oil cooler, alternator, electronic ignition, LCB exhaust, leather seats and Mohair hood. The condition is A1 in all departments, not quite concours but certainly the best we have owned. The restoration was complete; the body was painted as a bare shell and the underside and inner wheel arches painted with protective textured paint then body colour followed by a light coating of Waxoyl and all of the braking and suspension components has been refurbished or replaced. The under-bonnet is in immaculate order and the interior trim is excellent. On the road this Midget runs and drives perfectly with strong oil pressure and is transformed by the various upgrades, particularly the 5-speed gearbox which make it as practical as a modern car to use but clearly much more fun. There are cheaper Midgets around but this one is still great value and considerably cheaper than it would cost to re-create, today.
