The Appeal
Priced at three times that of the average saloon, Talbot’s AW75 was not for everyone. Developed by Swiss engineer Georges Roersch for Clement-Talbot, these cars were renowned for their refinement, elegance and, of course that 75mph top speed. Just 2,757 were built and today few survive.
This much-historied 1935 AW75 is an older restoration in fetching two-tone blue with a matching blue leather interior. It is a tidy and very usable example that is said to run perfectly. The enthusiast vendor has chosen to keep the patination intact, rather than over-restore it, giving the collector a wonderfully evocative period piece that could be left ‘as is’ or improved in stages. The history file is said to date back to 1935 and will no doubt add to the buyer’s fascination.
The car arrived with the buyer in March 2022 and was quickly despatched to Talbot specialist I S Polson where close to £10,000 of work was undertaken. This is documented in invoices shown in the photos and includes paintwork, new tyres and tubes, servicing and mechanical work. The car has been garaged and used sparingly ever since.
The vendor says:
"It is running perfectly, as it has been kept in a dry garage to keep out of damp and has been looked after till now.
“As I keep everything as original, to drive this car. Will take you back to 1935. It's the perfect car for a collector as it is.”
