Painted by one of the UK's earliest specialists in motoring and aviation art, this striking oil painting captures the dynamism and speed of early motorsport, as well as focussing on one of the greatest figures in motorsport history: Sir Stirling Moss.

Michael Turner, born in Middlesex in 1934, went on to become a prominent figure in the early years of motorsport and aviation artwork. 

He created this particular artwork in 1959 at the age of just 25, just a couple of years before he began to find real success creating official artwork for Watkins Glen, Le Mans, Sebring and the Nürburgring, amongst others.

An oil-on-canvas piece, using a combination of brushwork and flamboyant pallet-knife work, this artwork neatly captures the speed, vibration and exhilaration of the early years of motorsport.

The subject is Sir Stirling Moss, racing in the no.2 DBR1 around Goodwood. With a finished size of 19.5" (49.5cm) x 27.5" (70cm), this would make a fine centrepiece for any motorsport collection.

Purchased in April 1999 by the vendor from Fellows Auction House in Birmingham, it is now ready to find a new home. It should be noted that the frame has some marks from condensation damp, and that the painting itself may benefit from a professional clean.

Whether you're a fan of early motorsport, Sir Stirling Moss or racing in general, this lively, nicely composed painting would make an excellent addition to any collection. Created by one of the early practitioners of motorsport artwork, it should be a wise investment as well as a handsome work in its own right.
