THE APPEAL

The GT Veloce 2000 was part of the family of 105/115 series coupés designed by Georgetown Giugiaro for Bertone.

Variants were produced from 1963 until 1977, the GTV 2000 being the last and most refined fitted with the 2-litre engine of course, as well as a limited-slip-differential (LSD).

It was a groundbreaking design, featuring a wealth of unique and high-end features, from the shapely glass-house to the all-round disc brakes and all-alloy twin cam engine.

Mated to a 5 speed manual, the charismatic engine pushed 130bhp to the rear wheels, making it a very quick little car for the time.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

This lovely little Alfa started its life in in the dry climate of South Africa, where it resided for just over 3 decades.

It was brought into the UK in 2015, and has had regular but sparing use since.

A lot of work has clearly been undertaken over the years, both to maintain the vehicle and to add some desirable and practical upgrades. Since being imported to the UK, the car has of course always been dry stored and by the looks of things, has never seen a drop of rain.

This lovely little Alfa has also been well cared for and most recently, the front brakes have been reconditioned and a new clutch master and salve cylinder fitted.

Even a cursory glance over the car tells you this vehicle has had a lot of attention in recent years and the receipts and paperwork that come with it confirm this.

The car comes with a good amount of paperwork from its life in South Africa, where a previous owner clearly spent thousands maintaining and overhauling the car.

Numerous receipts for parts from Alfaholics and for work carried out are present.

As expected the V5 is present and correct, and it also comes with the original sales brochures, an owners workshop manual and the composite workshop manual for the 105/115 series.

Currently owned by two brothers who are unfortunately selling the car due to losing their garage space in Pimlico, they welcome viewings for anyone who would like to take the time!

THE INTERIOR

Alfa have always made lovely interiors, and the GTV 2000 is no exception.

Swathed in wood veneer, with stainless trim, deep grey carpets and ribbed vinyl seats, it’s a truly lovely place to be.

The large glasshouse gives the cabin a light and airy feel, while the iconic wood-rimmed, 3 spoke steering wheel, heavily cowled instruments and manual gear shifter add a fantastic motorsport vibe.

Unlike many 70s Alfas, the doors on this car close beautifully, in fact everything seems to be in lovely condition, in both the main cabin and the boot area, clearly very well maintained.

We couldn’t see anything that needed to be renewed, it’s practically perfect as is the brand-new looking Alfa Romeo red car cover that we found beautifully folded in its protective bag in the boot.

The current and previous owners have renewed and refreshed some aspects of the interior, as well as adding a couple of welcome enhancements. In 2011 the seat covers were renewed, along with the door and boot lid seals.

Modern inertia reel seat belts were also added, although the originals do come with the car. A modern JVC CD/Radio head unit has been added, along with Pioneer 6x9 speakers in the rear parcel shelf.

Finally, the car comes with a spare wheel which is found in the boot as well as two sets of keys.

THE EXTERIOR

Pretty barely begins to describe the GTV 2000. The proportions and styling have always been great on these cars, but this model is also in exceptional condition.

While many European cars of this era have long since rusted away, decades in the dry South African climate, along with 7 years dry-stored over here, have clearly been very kind to the car. It looks magnificent.

The Rosso Alfa paint is glossy with a deep shine and glows beautifully in the sunshine. There are one or two very minor age-related blemishes, nothing that one wouldn't expect. The panels are straight, the gaps even and all the brightwork is in fantastic condition too. Recently the car was taken to a garage to make sure everything was in good working order, and whilst on the ramps they took the vendor around the underside to show him how solid the car was.

While in South Africa, the previous owner fitted GTV Momo Vega style 14” alloy wheels, which are shod in Kumho Solus KR21 tyres and are in superb condition. Unfortunately whilst parked in central London the other day, it appears that someone has taken one of the centre wheel caps for one of the wheels as a souvenir and the vendor is currently searching for a replacement.

An embroidered, bespoke car cover also comes with the car, invaluable for keeping that glorious paintwork spic-and-span.

THE MECHANICS

The Alfa twin-cam is a legendary engine, and rightly so.

130bhp from the carbureted 2 litre all-alloy lump was excellent for them at the time, and would still be good today. Whether you’re looking at the engine bay or the mechanicals underneath the car, everything not only looks solid but well cared for and superbly maintained.

Receipts show that the front brakes were recently reconditioned, a new clutch master and slave cylinder fitted, new studs fitted to the gearbox bell housing and a new exhaust fitted. A straight-through exhaust that was previously on the car also comes with it.

From examining the car, it appears that before the car was imported to the UK a number of major works were undertaken.

Although there is no paperwork to confirm it, it certainly looks like a new differential, propshaft and sump were fitted quite recently. All of the suspension components look solid, clean and tidy, many appearing to have recently been renewed.

The owner tells us that the car drives very well – it certainly looked and sounded lovely when it arrived at the venue for the photoshoot. There’s a delightfully smooth burble from the exhaust and the engine revs freely and smoothly.

Frankly, it sounds and looks like a very nice car.

SUMMARY

Do we need to explain the appeal of a GTV 2000? Well, first and foremost it’s an Alfa, with all the passion and motorsport heritage that brings.

Secondly, it’s a GTV. Some may beg to differ, but we think this is one of the best looking cars Alfa have ever made, which Ames it one of the prettiest cars ever made, full stop.

From the jewel-like grille sporting twin headlights, to the gorgeous Momo Vega wheels, swooping roofline and classic 70s style interior, every inch of this car is dripping with style.

We’ve rarely seen a 70s Alfa in such lovely condition. The African climate and dry storage have really helped to maintain the bodywork, it could almost be an Alfa heritage car - that’s how good it looks.

The paintwork has a deep, glossy shine and the brightwork shines beautifully. Underneath everything appears solid and cared-for, with thousands clearly having been spent on renovating and maintaining the car over the years.

It’s one of those cars that immediately transports you to the Amalfi coast, it has that wonderfully elegant blend of motorsport heritage and gorgeous design that Alfa does so well.

Bertone certainly made them proud with this shape, there’s little else like it on the road today, and thanks to modern regulations probably never will be again.

As an everyday classic, this is a perfect proposition. There isn’t a car show in the land that wouldn’t welcome this stunning little Italian with open arms, and few cars will engender the sort of good will from all corners of the car community that this would.

You’d never believe this was a 50 year old car, it’s simply stunning, and has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

Bravissimo, Alfa. Bravissimo!

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
