The Appeal
For many, a holiday isn’t really a holiday without bringing along your faithful Type 2. That’s why we love this very honest 1972 Westfalia, Nicknamed Poppy for reasons that will be obvious when you see the photos, it has been accompanying the current keeper on trips since 2014 and is evidently much-loved. It is a really well-specified van that comes with some neat touches, like a Propex heater to make winter camping much more comfortable.
The attractive dark red and white paintwork was applied in 2010 and matches the two-tone interior. There are points to note to the bodywork in the photos, but nothing deemed serious by the last MOT in 2023. The 1,600cc twin-port engine was replaced 20,000 miles ago. Subsequent work has included rebuilding the carburettor, replacing the alternator and undertaking extensive repairs to the suspension, steering, fuel system and other areas in 2022. The last service was in 2024 but the van will be serviced again prior to sale.
If your taste in Type 2s is less showy and shiny and more get out and go, then this much-loved example is for you.
