Now this very car could be yours.
It’s going to need some work to make it roadworthy, clearly, but the allure of an original Quattro Turbo is hard to resist. Without wanting to offer any spoilers for the video, it’s currently a non runner and will need trailering away.
However, the interior is in good shape and, while there is some corrosion to take care of, the bodywork is in remarkably good condition.

If you’re prepared for the work, the rewards are there for the taking; values of early Quattro Turbos have been on the up for a while. But the joy to be had from opening your garage door to see a fully restored ur-Quattro?

The History and Paperwork
- July 1982 build, thought to be one of the first 70 RHD examples
- First registered 1 September 1982
- Believed to have been owned by the last owner for 4-5 years prior to being parked up in a garage, for reasons unknown

The Interior
- Brown Zebra velour seats

Almost a design classic in its own right, a zebra velour Audi interior from the early eighties is quite something to behold. Not only does the distinctive pattern appear on the seats but also in the headlining.
Over the years it seems to have avoided any serious abuse from its owners and the attention of any small furry animals while in storage. That, and having been out of the sun for the best part of thirty years, means that the soft furnishings and the dashboard are in surprisingly good condition.
The radio is missing and it’s not known if all of the switchgear works at this stage. But when you do find a suitable stereo, there’s a full set of Alpine speakers to hook it up to.
The boot is tidy, too, and there’s a space saver spare, a jack, and the all important sticker that helps to identify the build date.
In all, it’s about as good as you could hope for in a barn find interior.

The Audi Quattro Turbo was launched in 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show in this very colour and with these optional Fuchs alloy wheels, making this a very evocative colour scheme.
The bodyshell has fared remarkably well, as has the paint, but it will need a full restoration.

It’s not known when the bodykit was fitted but it’s very of its time and so a future owner may decide to retain it. The wheels are in fair condition but the tyres have perished and won’t hold air for any length of time, which isn’t a huge shock at this stage.
The underside reportedly shows no signs of damage but there is some corrosion which will need to be addressed in numerous areas.
Overall, there’s plenty of work to be done but the starting point could be a lot worse.

The Mechanics
- 2.2-litre turbocharged inline five cylinder engine
- Five speed manual gearbox
- Four wheel drive, as the name implies

- Original cam cover has now been found

Under the bonnet the engine looks to be almost complete but it is currently a non-runner.
The starter solenoid fails to operate and so it’s not been possible to turn the engine over. Also, when the car was put into storage, the cam cover, brake callipers and pads were removed. Thankfully, the owner has just found them, so the original cam cover and brake calipers will come with the car.
We therefore can’t tell you how the car goes down the road but we can easily imagine how it will drive when it’s restored and that it involves a lovely, five cylinder, offbeat, whooshy soundtrack and unbeatable traction.
