The Appeal
The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16v "Cosworth" is one of the most celebrated sports saloons of the 1980s. Its twin-cam 16-valve head transformed the compact W201 into a genuine performance car, and its role as a homologation special for touring car racing has cemented its place in motorsport history. Today, the 2.3-16v commands a devoted following, and well-kept examples are increasingly sought after.
This 1987 example has been in the current vendor's hands for approximately 39 years, having been purchased as the second registered keeper with a mere 700 miles showing. It has been garage-kept throughout and now shows 97,000 miles on the odometer. The vendor describes both the bodywork and interior as being in very good order. On the mechanical front, a replacement engine was fitted approximately four years ago, and the vendor reports that the car runs very well, feeling quick and handling as it should. It comes to market with an MOT valid to June 2026.
Prospective buyers should note that much of the original paperwork has been lost, so the history file is limited. That said, the sheer length of single-custodian ownership and the reported condition of this 2.3-16v make it a compelling proposition for admirers of this iconic homologation saloon.PRM_7336 Peter Rosenthal.JPG3.83 MB
