The Jeep Wrangler is nothing short of an icon, a shape recognised throughout the world, and a name synonymous with style and off road capability, packaged in with a great deal more refinement than the more agricultural bare bones European counterparts. 

Coming to market as a change of pace from the CJ Jeeps that in one form or another had been in production for the prior 40 years. The all new YJ Wrangler kept the same classic body shape, with the most major change from an aesthetic perspective being the switch from round to rectangular headlights. The real changes were to be done underneath, with the brief from AMC being to target the jeep at those in need of a more usable vehicle on a daily basis, the new Wrangler sported an updated interior, upgraded suspension and a wider track in the name of ride comfort and safety. 

First registered for the road in August of 1993, this Wrangler has been under its current ownership since 2019. The current owner is an avid Jeep enthusiast and as such has spent a great deal bringing this example up to a wonderful standard, both cosmetically and mechanically,  it has been excellently maintained and serviced, and now having relocated to the city of London, they are looking to move it on to someone who mirrors this passion for Jeeps.  

Being such a cared for vehicle, we find the Jeep accompanied by a great stack of paperwork built up over its lifetime. Consisting of several invoices and receipts for both mechanical and cosmetic work performed on the Jeep from both the current and previous owners of the Jeep. We also find multiple prior MOT certificates, including the most recent MOT, valid until January 2023, alongside this, there are invoices for work done to rectify the advisories that were made apparent on the current MOT test. 

Most notably, the history folder holds the invoice for the extensive body work that has been commissioned by the current owner, consisting of extensive bodywork fabrication and rust repair before a full respray of the truck at a cost of around £5000 was undertaken by RS Coachworks. 

There are also multiple photos of the Jeep from what is believed to be restoration and customisation work done by a previous owner, however the exact date of that work and the photos is not known. 

The all important V5 registration documentation is present. 

Opening the doors of the Jeep and glancing into the cabin, it's clear to see why many saw these Wranglers as a more comfortable and usable off-roader. Exquisitely upholstered seats front and rear finished in an excellent golden brown hue with a colour matching dash piece and leather wrapped steering wheel. Certainly, compared to some of its more agricultural counterparts, the Wrangler is a truly lavish place to be yet somehow without losing that simplicity one wants in an offroader.  

The cabin of this particular Wrangler has borne the test of time incredibly well, apart from the to be expected signs of general patina dotted around some trim pieces the interior is in remarkably clean condition. The aforementioned seats, in the front and the rear are of an excellent standard and present well, lacking in any major wear, with just some minor marking to be seen on the passenger seat base and rear seat back. 

It's a pleasure to find them still rich with that incredible colour that really makes this Jeep pop. The mechanisms on which they sit are all in good standing and function fully with ease. This quality is mirrored on both door cards, with the upholstery clean and unmarked and the door furniture all in good standing, it should be noted however, that the passenger side window winder is missing the bottom piece. 

Front and centre, the large dash piece is in wonderful condition, the plastic free from crackings and any sun damage to the material itself or its colour. The excellently styled row of gauges are also of a great standard, and just below the heater controls look of a similarly clean nature. Here we also find the radio CD player, which although in good condition, has been reported by the owner to cut out intermittently. 

The floor of the cabin is coated in a mixture of some brown carpeting, prominently on the transmission tunnel and some wonderful heavy duty style metal plating which plays the part excellently and looks perfect in the Jeep. This material continues its way into the rear of the cabin where alongside the removable rear bench seat, sit the two factory metal lock boxes, the keys for which are present with the Jeep. 

Inside these lock boxes sit two rather rare factory branded jeep towel seat covers that go over the front two seats. Looking above the light grey roof liner is in good standing but does show some general signs of age and patina, sitting under this is the internally mounted roll bar. 

It should be noted that there are two rear mounted speakers to be seen in the rear of the cabin however these are not wired in at present.

There is a reason the Jeep’s styling has remained largely unchanged from those early CJ Jeeps right up to the ones rolling off the factory floor today, and that is that the Jeep’s styling is excellent. Well proportioned, simple yet rugged design, the Jeep designers hit the right formula without a doubt. 

This specific YJ is finished in a wonderful dark green hue that really sets the truck off. Courtesy of the full respray commissioned by the current owner, the paintwork is in excellent condition and still has a rich gloss and shine to it. The interior and exterior colour combination is certainly an excellent match. The green paintwork is contrasted well with the black roof piece of the Jeep that the owner informs, can be removed fully via a series of bolts for that full open top experience. 

The heavy duty metal plated bumpers front and rear are a great addition to the mix and not only look great, but are in a great condition. Below the rear bumper we find a tow bar mounted along with the correct electrical hookup point. The lighting and glass work is clean although at the bottom corner of the front windscreen there is a crack to the glass, however this has been deemed safe having passed its MOT with the issue. 

The chrome trim and brightwork are of a similarly great standard and present well. Up front sits an aftermarket externally mounted chrome light bar with a set of four external off road spot lights. These look excellent on the truck and are in great condition, however at present they are not actually wired up to the vehicle. 

The Jeep sits on four excellent upgraded 15” wheels finished in an excellent shade of black. These sit on brilliant 31” all terrain Toyo Open Country tyres, which being a recent addition to the vehicle are in great condition with incredibly minimal wear. The rear mounted spare wheel is still the original wheel and tyre combination for the Jeep.

Under the bonnet we find an absolute gem of an engine, the thumping 4.0 litre straight six famed for its incredible longevity and reliability. Being such a well maintained example, the engine on this Jeep turns over and fires into life quickly and with ease, a brilliant deep tone bellows from the exhaust out rear. On the road, it provides an excellent drive, putting the power down well and effortlessly shifting through the gears of the manual transmission. The engine bay and engine itself are incredibly clean, with the bay also housing the original factory jack for the truck. 

After being flagged as having excessive play in its most recent MOT, the Jeep now sports new rear wheel bearings. Looking underneath we are greeted with an incredibly clean underside all appearing to be in great order from both a mechanical and aesthetic standpoint. 

Closer inspection underneath will reveal the Jeep to be sitting on some distinctive yellow shock absorbers, these come courtesy of an “Old Man Emu” 2.5” lift kit the current owner has had installed on the vehicle, a bonus for both the off road capability of the truck and its overall stance, sat on those excellent offroad wheels and tyres.

The appeal of a Jeep Wrangler could quite easily be summed up with just the use of the word, cool. A rugged stylish offroad machine, that sports more of the mod cons and comfort that the average person wants in a vehicle. This is a well preserved excellently maintained example of one of the most iconic cars of the modern era. 

Benefiting from extensive bodywork, a full respray and a recent MOT, this is a truck that can be jumped in and enjoyed right off the mark, and thanks to the upgraded wheels tyres and lift kit, it can be enjoyed just about anywhere the mood takes you.
