With a direct lineage to the earlier Griffith, the Chimaera went on to become TVR’s best-selling model. Production began in 1991 and continued through to 2003 and approximately 6,000 Chimaeras were built in total.
Infamously, Peter Wheeler’s beloved German Pointer, Ned, is often credited for assisting with the design of the Chimaera. As Peter Wheeler was quoted at the time: “Yeah, he was charging about as usual and took a bite out of the polystyrene model of the Chimaera we had on the table.”
Allegedly, instead of being sent to the doghouse this creative input was subsequently incorporated into the design of the indicator recesses.
This example is a Chimaera 400, with no modifications at all – not that you need them on a 150mph sports car. But its real selling points are its mileage – under 42,000 from new – and the vast amount of work carried out by the vendor to bring it to its current condition, including new outriggers, a brand-new hood, a full respray and a new walnut dash. He’s spent thousands – and it shows. 2vmnEIwT6CFzX4rq6jWJKaIJKQ0aAykN5ZYcOYgl.jpg805.13 KB
