The Appeal
Taking over from the iconic E30, BMW’s E36 upped the ante with more room, better refinement, more power and more luxurious appointments. Unsurprisingly, it was a huge success. Available in a number of body styles, with a vast range of engine, drivetrain and trim options, there really was an E36 for everyone.
Now, they are widely seen as a genuine modern classic, with smooth, understated styling and fantastic balance and feel from the rear-drive powertrain. Particularly desirable are the ‘Touring’ estate models – and to find an unmodified one with a manual transmission is even rarer.
So it is that we’re very pleased to present this very smart 328i Touring, complete in the ideal specification – manual transmission with the M Sport styling pack. It appears to be in factory specification and unmodified, again a rare thing to find, and is in a very attractive silver-over-black specification. If you’re after a practical and very usable daily classic that should also be a heap of fun when you point it at a B-road, then this could well be the car for you.

The Interior
- Black leather upholstery, all presenting in very good order, with some light creasing and wear to the front seats
- Black carpets and complementary dark grey floor mats, which show some gentle wear but no threading or notable staining we could see
- The light grey headlining appears to be in fine fettle, with no sagging, damage or staining apparent
- Electric windows and door mirrors
- Dual zone air conditioning
- Original glove box torch present and correct
- Rear parking sensors
- Modern Blaupunkt CD/radio with hands-free phone connection, Aux and USB ports
- As a Touring model, the boot is large and practical, trimmed in smart black carpet, with a retractable load/dog net and a retractable load cover
- Under the boot carpet, the floor looks to be nice and solid, and there is a full-size spare wheel alongside a small tool roll
- The vendor does not report any faults or issues with the cabin’s functions
The Exterior
- Arctic Silver Metallic paintwork shows in pretty good condition, with some minor scuffs, marks and scrapes, but only what would be commensurate with the age and mileage
- The bodywork looks to be straight and tidy, with even panel gaps and no significant damage or corrosion we could see
- We did note some bubbling to the lower corners of the doors, roof rails and tailgate
- All of the external trim and badge elements appear to be present and correct, but show some corrosion and fading in places
- Underneath the car, there appears to be quite a bit of corrosion to the various drivetrain elements, but the floors and sills appear to be solid and straight
- The 16-inch ‘Style 30’ split-spoke alloy wheels look to be in nice condition, with some light scratches and marks, and are dressed in a set of Dunlop tyres
The Mechanics

Summary
The E36 remains a very respected modern classic and the Touring model is particularly sought after, especially when fitted with a manual transmission. For anyone that wants a genuinely usable daily classic, one that offers plenty of driver involvement too, this handsome estate would be a very good option…
