THE APPEAL
The Arnage was the last of the real, true V8-powered Bentleys. Vast, extremely comfortable and the absolute epitome of luxury, it ran from 1998 until 2009. It was initially sold with a BMW engine, but following VW’s acquisition of Bentley in 2000, it reverted back to the traditional (and preferable) 6.75-litre V8.
This one marked an even more significant return, though, in the form of Bentley going back to Le Mans for the first time in 71 years with the Speed Eight, a car that was a modern take on past glories and made even the Arnage feel like a glorious anachronism, let alone the ‘Blower’ Bentleys that gave the brand such a magnificent heritage.
The Le Mans Series models were sold through 2001 and 2002, based on the Arnage, Continental T and Azure convertible. The Arnage was the most prevalent, with 150 Le Mans Series Editions were made in total with only 53 of those being RHD.
This one is a fine example, first registered in September 2001 and impeccably maintained throughout its life via a network of well-known Bentley specialists, having covered less than 58,000 miles from new. The Arnage is a truly opulent car both front and rear, and is superbly presented with no evident flaws. The seats are finished in smart Le Mans Green leather, with the Bentley logo hand-stiched into the head restraints.
Its dark burr walnut veneers are specific to the model and include Le Mans Series printed inlays, while the dials feature the same wording, reminding you that this is a pretty special Arnage variant.

The Bentley has an imposing presence in its original Silver Storm paint, which retains a deep and wonderful shine. It’s very well-presented with no major flaws or damage – just a very tiny mark on the edge of the mirror and certainly nothing of any great importance.
The wheels are all very smart and wear red Bentley centre caps, with the correct Pirelli P-Zero tyres all-round.
Being a 2001 car, this one has the Rolls-Royce 6.75-litre V8 under the bonnet – one of the last Bentleys to do so. It’s an absolute peach of an engine and runs sweetly, with no evident issues.
The vendor has driven it over 5,000 miles during his ownership with no major issues, and reports that it drives very well, with great performance, brakes, steering and handling – as you’d expect from a car that has been well-serviced and cared for throughout its life. Collectors are starting to clamour to get their hands on the best of the Arnages – considered by many to be the last ‘true’ Bentley.
This one is absolutely terrific – a very rare special edition with immense pedigree, impeccably presented and in fine order. It’s one of the last cars of its type – a big V8 super saloon that marks the pinnacle of a now bygone era. One for the collector, and a safe long-term investment.
