The Appeal

Toyota’s MR2 roadster has begun to be appreciated in recent years as a desirable classic sports car. Its less-than-conventional mid engine position sets it apart as something a little different, for the driver who doesn’t want to follow the herd.

The MR2 is a capable performer and has the looks to match, so we can see why more people might now beginning to consider them as an option. This particular car is presented in fantastic condition. The paintwork is excellent, and so is the red cloth interior.

We’d love to be able to jump into this mid-engined roadster and take it for a spin on a sunny afternoon, as the current owner has enjoyed doing. It will make an excellent addition to anyone’s garage.

The car has reportedly never been welded
Alloy wheels in good condition, with only a little bubbling
Tyres said to retain good tread
The body and shut lines all look good
Hood functions as it should, and appears to be clean and tight
No reported damage or corrosion underneath

The Mechanics

The engine bay appears to be clean and tidy
1794cc engine produces 138 bhp
Said to drive exceptionally well
Reportedly accelerates well, changes gear smoothly with its short shift gearbox, and brakes in a straight line
No reported leaks or smoke
The owner tells us that it sounds excellent, especially with the roof down

Summary

This MR2 is very well presented when you consider that it’s now over twenty years old. Its low mileage and careful ownership has allowed it to survive almost unblemished.
