The Renault Avantime is one of the boldest cars in living memory. Part MPV, part shooting brake, part convertible, and part tourer. It's the sort of car that could have been an industry reset if it had only come at a more ambitious time for the motor trade - sadly, the millennium wasn't nearly as forward-thinking as we might have hoped, and sales were poor - the situation only worsened when Matra left the motor industry, and Renault didn't fancy going it alone. 

In the end, only 8,557 were built over the car's life, fewer than 500 of which went to the UK. A great shame for Renault's stock books, but a great curiosity for the modern enthusiast. This is a real piece of proto-futurist curio, and they've managed to earn quite an audience - the legendary MPV that never quite found a market.
