The BMW-owned Mini was first launched in 2000, and despite many fearing it was a big gamble to reinvent such a classic, it went down a storm.
Even though it was much bigger than the original mini in almost every single respect, it quickly became popular as a very cute , stylish small hatchback with a massive personality. Much like the original.
Inevitably fast versions followed with badges like Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works making a welcome return combined with the relevant power plants to back them up.
The car comes with a large folder of supporting paperwork (pictured) including the essential documents such as V5, previous MOTS (currently has MOT until August 21) and numerous servicing invoices.
Inside the cabin, this mini is very clean indeed. The seats have no wear and the interior looks to have been hardly used.
It features all of the usual extras for a mini of this age with electric windows, power steering, multifunction steering wheel and automatic gear shift with paddles, in addition it has extras like the panoramic roof and two tone leather.DSC_8923.jpg2.64 MB
The Exterior
The exterior of the mini is just as clean as the inside. It wears the full Cooper S body kit and the paintwork is in fantastic condition.
It has the electric mirrors and the alloy wheels are also unmarked. The tyres are in excellent condition too. The car features external spotlights on the front and twin exhaust tips on the rear which give it a really sporty look.DSC_8819.jpg2.54 MB
The Mechanics
Being the Cooper S it has the supercharged 1.6 engine. The car pulls well in all gears and steps down the auto box as it should. Being an auto is a little unusual in this hot hatch but it makes the car an absolute pleasure to drive.
There are no untoward knocks or noises and the power steering pump does not squeal like many of this model unfortunately do.
The original mini burst onto the scene in 1959 and was groundbreaking. The BMW Mini as seen here came about when BMW purchased Mini and decided to relaunch it.
More modern and spacious than the original , but still with bucket-loads of character. What’s not to like? The Cooper S was, and still is a very capable hatchback due to its design and its punchy 1.6 Litre engine. In Steptronic automatic guise, this example in particular is quite a rare machine.
If you like a hot hatch but also want something easy to cruise in that looks good and is easy to park, you wont get more bang for your buck than a low mileage clean example like this.
