2006 Mercedes-Benz CL500

Highlights

• Classy CL500 Coupé
• Comprehensive service history
• Only 47,200 miles from new
• Superb condition throughout

The Background

Introduced in 1999, the Mercedes-Benz “W215” was, at the time, one of the most luxurious large coupés that money could buy.
It was based on the gargantuan W220 S-Class saloon, although it wasn't quite as large with a wheelbase eight inches longer. There was quite a lot of commonality though, with the windscreen, bulkhead and most mechanical components carried over from the executive saloon.
Unlike the S-Class, the CL is only a four-seater and not a five-seater, but it remains one of the most comfortable and luxurious four-seater cars ever made. It was particularly popular in its domestic market of Germany, where many chief executives and business leaders still like to drive themselves up and down the nation’s autobahn network.
The CL coupés were – like the S-Class - equipped with the very latest in Mercedes-Benz technology, with an Active Body Control fully active suspension system and Bi-Xenon HID headlights.
The Active Body Control uses four hydraulic suspension rams that use three pressure regulators connected to a combined power steering and suspension pump, pushing fluid through the system to keep it flat and stable through corners - an innovation in its day and still pretty impressive over two decades later.

The History

This is quite a late CL and is a low ownership car, supplied new in 2006.
For the first five years of its life it averaged around 3000 miles per year - a piffling amount for such a comfort and performance-focused vehicle which would normally be found thrashing its way up and down fast A-roads and motorways.
From 2011 onwards the mileage picked up to around 5,000 miles per year with the second owner, but from 2014 onwards the car has barely been used, covering less than 2,000 miles per year. As a result, with just 47,200 miles on the clock it must be one of the lowest mileage CL's on the market and available today.

The Paperwork

Supplied with the Mercedes are the original owner’s book pack containing the driver’s handbook, service guide and service history as well as a fully stamped service book that backs up the incredibly low mileage. 3 of those service stamps are from Mercedes.
There's also a navigation manual, an EU certificate of conformity and a current UK V5C.

The Exterior

Finished in sleek and stylish Obsidian black, the CL500 is a fabulous looking beast and is in excellent order.
Generally, the W215 isn't a model renowned for its rust resilience, but this example is in excellent order with no signs of any corrosion on top or underneath.
The sills, wings and wheel arches are all in excellent condition and the paint maintains an excellent shine with only some very minor stone chips and small marks on the body that do very little to detract from its stunning appearance.

The Interior

Open the door and you're greeted by a cabin that is as luxurious and as opulent as the S-Class saloons. The CL really was a very special car when it was new and it remains one today.
The highlights of the interior are the seats, which are both heated and ventilated, and have Mercedes's integrated massage function. They are amongst the most comfortable and ergonomically designed car seats ever made and they give the interior of the car a real sense of occasion.
The rear seats are spotless and appear to have never been sat in, while those in the front are also in impeccable condition, which is hardly surprising given the car’s extremely low mileage.
All of the dials and controls work as they should, along with the Mercedes COMAND sat nav and central climate control system.

The Mechanics

Under the bonnet, the CL has the same 5.5-litre V8 as found in the SL55 and S-Class saloon. It's a wonderful powerplant with 386bhp on tap – not to be mistaken with the earlier 5.0-litre cars which had 84bhp less.
According to the vendor it's in great running order with no known problems and holds good oil pressure with no warning lights on the dash.
The notoriously complex Active Body Control is in full working order and shows no signs of any faults - good news, as problems here can often be complex and expensive to sort out.

The Appeal

This is a truly lovely example of one of the most luxurious grand touring coupés ever made, in exceptional condition, with a tiny mileage and with no known faults.
As a collector’s piece and a future classic it has masses of potential, not least because most CLs have covered much higher mileages and are nowhere near as well-preserved.
You're unlikely to find another one in such good condition and with such a low mileage, backed up by a comprehensive history. It's a lovely car and one that is also likely to prove a very sensible longer term investment.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
