RESERVE LOWERED - 2011 Bentley Mulsanne

Please note, the private registration featured in this listing is not included in the sale.

Highlights

・The pinnacle of Bentley’s luxury cars
・Extremely low mileage car with just 12,150 miles on the clock
・Beautifully appointed with plenty of option

The Background

Upon its release in 2010, the Mulsanne was the first all-new Bentley to come out of the Crewe plant in around 80 years. All-new truly meant ‘all-new’… Each car took over 400 hours to produce and didn’t share a single part, let alone the platform, with any other vehicle from the Rolls-Royce or Volkswagen Group.
The car takes its name from Mulsanne Corner of the Le Mans race circuit – a circuit where Bentley had some history; their race cars having won a legendary six races over the years. To many it seemed a little at odds, connecting this 2.7 tonne thoroughbred brute of a car to performance, yet with its 6.75l twin turbo v8 pushing out over 500bhp, its performance is something that actually set this car apart from its luxury rivals. Likened by many as a kind of turbocharged stately home, the Mulsanne managed something that none other could; it provided an entertaining drive up front, with the true epitome of luxury elsewhere.
Look closely around the car and you’ll see plenty of classic Bentley design elements such as the grill and the round lights, even the glorious curves of the rear pillar are created by hand with old fashioned, coach building techniques. But, unlike previous Bentley’s the Mulsanne used modern interpretations of these features, helping to place it right at the top of the tree of Bentley cars.
Production of the Mulsanne ended in the summer of 2020 with just over 7,000 cars having been produced in total. Though a relatively small number of cars, it’s estimated that 700+ people from the Bentley factory put in a combined 3 million total hours to produce them all.
This 2011 car is finished in the timeless Midnight Emerald; a brilliantly deep, metallic green paint. This is a spec which makes it very close to that of a Mulsanne previously owned by HM Queen Elizabeth II in Barnato Green and which sold earlier this year.

The History

Purchased originally in July of 2011 from Jack Barclay Bentley in West London, the current keeper became the fourth owner when he added this Mulsanne his luxury collection just 14 months ago. Due to a need for constant business travel and a fleet of other cars, only 400 miles have been added to the car under the current owners watch. Despite the minimal use, a full service and extensive health check were undertaken and, just a month ago, the car was treated to four new tyres, new fan belts, spark plugs and other service items.
This Bentley has been treated with the care and respect that it deserves, being garaged throughout the current owner’s tenure and – we believe – the previous owners too. As you may imagine, with the lack of use that he’s managed to glean from it, the owner feels it’s only right to remove this Mulsanne from his collection and into someone else’s care.

The Paperwork

Accompanying the car is a full and complete service logbook, accruing 11 service stamps with the Bentley dealership it was purchased from until 2018 when the duty of care was picked up by Bentley specialists, Hanwells who have completed a further 4 services since. The car was most recently serviced in May 2021. The original owner’s handbook is also included with the logbook.
The car’s MOT is valid until March 2022 and the V5 document is also present. It’s worth noting that the registration pictured will not be provided with the car, instead going back to its original registration of: LJ11 NRM.

The Interior

Taking over 170 hours to create the cabin alone - that’s almost half of the entire build time of the whole car – it’s safe to say that the interior on this car is one of the standout areas. From the full wraparound wood veneer, luxury leather that’s been cured using traditional processes and glass switches, there’s an amazing inclusion of heritage among the modern comforts we expect from this type of car.
Influences from jewellery design and high technology are married together with Bentley’s vast amounts of heritage. This can be seen in features such as the timeless, analogue dials sunken into the walnut dash and the sumptuous leather that wraps almost every surface throughout. Every material this car, including the lambswool carpets, has been looked after carefully over the years and we couldn’t spot any noticeable deterioration aside from some very light creasing in the bolster of the driver’s seat. For the nit-pickers among us, the kick plates have seen some light use and would benefit from some metal polish to remove the light scratches we spotted. The exclusive Naim audio system around the car offers pure sound which can be enjoyed almost exclusively thanks to the total lack of road noise from inside the cabin.
Sink into the rear seats and you’ll find that walnut picnic tables are just the start of things for passenger comfort; optional rear headrest screens keep passengers entertained while the ventilated, electrically adjustable, massage seats ensure total comfort. This car’s rear seats and associated functions have clearly seen minimal use, presenting beautifully with even the Bentley noise-cancelling headphones included in the doors.

The Exterior

At almost 5.6m long, there’s a lot of exterior here to appreciate… The green paint comes alive under sunlight, as too does the brightwork that guides your eye around the car. It’s worth noting that Bentley is the only manufacturer to use polished steel instead of chrome for their brightwork, offering greater longevity which is certainly the case here.
Having enjoyed a garaged life, there’s no damage that could be picked up on the bodywork and the car is, as you’d expect, very clean and clear of corrosion underneath. If we were being picky, we could suggest that the beautiful green paintwork could be brought into its best condition with some professional paint correction work to remove some swirling that’s occurred through cleaning over the years, but this certainly doesn’t detract from the car’s appeal.
The 21” wheels, wrapped in their nearly new Dunlop’s all around, are the desirable split rims, marking them out as slightly more unique. Being a car that’s lived in London it has, almost unavoidably, picked up some kerbing damage to the edges of the wheels so would benefit from refurbishment.

The Mechanics

The heart of the Bentley lies, of course under the vast bonnet... A hand-built 6.75L V8 drives the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The car, of course, started instantly, initiating the delightful V8 rumble in doing so. We’re led to believe that there are absolutely no mechanical concerns with this car and, thanks to a full service just one month ago, this can be substantiated through the paperwork.

The Appeal

A car that was literally fit for a Queen, the Bentley Mulsanne is a glorious car that’s already cementing itself in the history books of British luxury cars: most notably for offering a rare balance of being both a delight to drive yourself and to be driven in, too. Mechanically speaking, this example wants for nothing, having lived an easy life, wafting around London and being taken care of with impeccable service history.
Originally costing £230k, it wouldn’t be a stretch to call this car a bargain for the guide price that it’s available for here… Opulence truly never looked so fast.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
