The E36 is rapidly becoming a very sought after modern classic. Once the darling of the motorway’s outside lane, they’re an increasingly rare sight, especially as so many have been cannibalised for motorsport – in particular drifting.

Grey cloth upholstery in excellent condition, with no evidence of notable wear, no tears and no sagging we could discern
Grey carpet looks to be in very good order, with no significant wear, damage or staining we could see
Some slight bagging to the fabric of the door cards, but it’s minor and the fabric appears to be undamaged

The Exterior

Montreal Blue Metallic paintwork shows in fine fettle, with some minor blemishes and light scratches, but overall it’s in very good order
Bodywork looks to be straight and clean, with neat panel gaps and no signs of corrosion apparent
All of the exterior trim appears to be present and in good condition, with no signs of UV fading we could identify
Original 15” alloy wheels show very well, with a nice lustre and no kerbing we could identify
Full set of Michelin tyres, which look to be in good condition with decent tread levels
Underneath, the car presents in fine order, with no corrosion, damage or signs of repair we could see

The Mechanics

2,793cc inline-six, naturally aspirated engine, delivering 190hp to the rear wheels when new
Automatic transmission, which the vendor tells us changes smoothly with no issues
The engine bay presents exceptionally well, being very clean and tidy with no evidence of leaks or overheating that we could see
Recall by BMW on 10/11/21 for possible corrosion to the lower steering column shaft – all work carried out without charge by Marshals of Hook (BMW main dealer)
We’re assured the car runs very well, with no smoke under load, no leaks and no untoward noises or vibrations

Summary

This is a wonderful survivor that has clearly been very well maintained for the last couple of decades. If you’re looking for a superb modern classic to use as a daily driver or as something special to wheel out for shows and weekends away, this could well be the perfect car.
