Built at the Dearborn plant and shipped to Northern California by its original owner this very attractive 1965 Convertible Mustang has been the subject of an extensive restoration by the second owner who had moved the little Muscle Car to his home in Medford in Southern Oregon.
Stan and Mike Norton spent two years restoring the Mustang completing the build in 1989 and the Classic Mustang had great success winning many Classic Car shows in Oregon and Northern California where the Little Pony was exhibited in its own Corral!
The car was stored inside Stan and Mike’s factory building where they carried on a Powder Coating and Blast Cleaning business which is evident from many of the car’s components special finish.
We found this Mustang advertised for sale and after speaking to Stan at length decided to make the journey up to Medford OR as really good Convertibles are becoming so difficult to find. The drive up from Redding in Northern California was magnificent with snow-capped mountains and incredible valleys cutting through pine forests which kept unfolding mile after mile. Quite stunning!
Finding Stan’s works quite late in the day we decided to return the following day to inspect the Mustang which was stored along with other Classic Cars in the Brothers Norton collection.
Sunshine greeted us that morning and the Mustang had been moved to the open part of the building where it was clear our journey had not been in vain.
The restoration had been done very well with great attention to detail and had stood the test of time exceptionally well. The sun had faded the seats and the transmission tunnel area of the carpet which we have now retrimmed with TMI OEM USA made upholstery.
Mechanically the little Muscle Car has been entirely rebuilt by Mike a fully trained motor engineer who insisted on carrying out an extensive list of works including new clutch, facing the flywheel, new joints to prop shaft and new front brakes before he would allow us to take delivery.
The car has a great feel of originality reflecting a 65 Mustang Convertible in its truest form which drives as it would have done way back in 1965.
