Engine top end and gearbox noted to have been rebuilt in 2021
The Appeal
The Porsche 912 has long been cherished as the more accessible entry point to air-cooled Porsche ownership, yet it is a rewarding car in its own right. Lighter than its six-cylinder sibling, the 912's flat-four and modest power output reward a driver who relishes balance and involvement over outright speed, qualities that have only grown in appreciation over the decades.
This example has known just three owners from new, the second having purchased it in 1972 and the current vendor acquiring it in June 2000 whilst living in California. It has since been imported to Ireland with duties and taxes paid. The vendor reports that no modifications have been carried out, and the car remains largely original, right down to its working Blaupunkt radio, Recaro seats in black leatherette, and the delivery card and owner's manual still residing in the glove box.
Mechanically, the car has reportedly benefited from significant recent attention, including a gearbox rebuild and engine top end rebuild in 2021, reassembly with a new clutch in 2024, and a carburetor service and balance in late 2024. The vendor describes the car as a joy to drive, particularly on tight, twisty roads, and states it has proved very reliable and inexpensive to maintain.image.png1.38 MB
