The Appeal
The Ford Cortina was a familiar fixture of suburban Britain throughout the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, but Lotus’ reworking of the model into a legendary sporting saloon proved inspired. Developed in collaboration with the Hethel-based manufacturer as a homologation special, its competition counterpart was driven by greats such as Jim Clark and Graham Hill.
This late Mk2 example was sold new in Essex and, eight keepers later, was acquired from a deceased estate. Described by the seller as ‘a pleasure to drive’ thanks to its distinctive twin-carburettor soundtrack and mechanical restoration, it would now make a fantastic addition to any collection, and is sure to attract plenty of attention at any number of car shows and owners’ club events.
