The MG B GT is a staple of the British classic car scene, and perhaps the most desirable of all is the V8-engined model. Unusually, the eight-cylinder version of the B GT was significantly lighter and better-balanced than its inline-six stablemate, thanks to the all-alloy construction of the venerable Rover V8 engine.
This particular example is ideal for summer cruises and trips to the beach, thanks to its full-length sunroof allowing plenty of sunshine and air into the cabin, whilst retaining its iconic MG lines and - of course - that fantastic V8 soundtrack. RXMYVFBLpzgZcbLaR1AjIv4qroOfA42hhafWJCi7.jpg1.3 MB
The History & Paperwork
V5 registered keepers document, showing 7 former keepers
Two sets of keys
MG B GT V8 Manual
Originally supplied by Henlys Limited of Hereford in December 1973
Heritage Certificate, confirming that the car was originally supplied in Damask Red with a black interior to the home market in RHD, with cast-alloy wheels and overdrive
Numerous MoT certificates from throughout the car’s history
Older invoices for tuning, carburettor setup, and a rolling road print-out
Prior to coming into the care of the vendor, the car was in long-term storage for an extended period, explaining the gap in the history in more recent years
The paintwork is in fair condition overall, though it is showing its age, with numerous touched-in chips on the front end, visible blemishes and other imperfections dotted around the body, documented in the gallery below
There are cracks visible on the OSR wing and arch area, along with areas of corrosion around the front valence rear edges
Up-close, there are areas of microblistering visible below the paintwork around the windscreen and on the nearside rear wing
Up above, the full-length sunroof looks to be in excellent condition
Below the arches, all four of the wheels are in well-worn condition, but are holding air and are usable as they sit
Uprated switchable fans fitted to the car in full working order
Under the bonnet, the engine shows no signs of any obvious issues or leaks, nor did it exhibit any untoward or concerning behaviours during our photo shoot, with no smoking on idle
A slight knock from the rear suspension/exhaust possibly was noted when traversing uneven roads
On account of its age, the car is exempt from mandatory MoT examinations and does not come with a valid certificate, though we have included numerous underside photographs in the gallery below
A true British classic with an American-derived V8 soundtrack, the MG B GT is a hero of everyman performance, made all the more desirable in V8 guise as seen here.
With no reported mechanical faults, this B GT V8 is ready to use and enjoy as it sits, or would make a fantastic basis for a usable project to tinker and fettle with when time allows, whilst still being used for those wonderful summer days that are on the horizon…
