The Appeal

Abarth is a name synonymous with fast Italian superminis and they certainly didn’t disappoint when their capable engineers breathed upon the quirky Autobianchi A112. Weighing in at just over half a ton, seventy horsepower suddenly becomes plenty and, on a sinuous ribbon of tarmac, this plucky little hatchback could embarrass some really powerful cars in its day.

The Interior

Black leather seats with red piping which replaces the original corduroy upholstery
The door cards bear a similar design, contrasting the black leather with red stitching
No wear of any note to the upholstery so far as we could see
The new suede headlining is a really luxurious touch
New carpets present really well indeed and the overmats proudly display the Abarth crest
We’re informed that the dashboard has been completely restored, and it now looks fabulous
Little wear anywhere to be seen to the plastics, carpets or headlining
All the controls look to be in great shape and we adore the sports steering wheel
All of the switchgear and instrumentation is in fine condition and reportedly operates correctly

The Exterior

Restored bodywork repainted in gloss black
The vendor informs us that there are no paint imperfections anywhere to be found
The sheet metal is really straight with no signs of damage or corrosion
All of the black plastics present really well and the vendor remarks that they resemble the originals exactly

The Mechanics

Very smart under the bonnet
1050cc four-cylinder Abarth engine
Five-speed manual gearbox
New cylinder block, connecting rods, piston rings and valves
Water, oil, and petrol pumps were also replaced, as were the timing and service belts
New brake master cylinder, hoses, pads and shoes
New suspension arms front and rear along with shock absorbers
All the gaskets and perishable rubber components have been replaced including new fuel lines
New manifolds fitted
Rebuilt clutch assembly and gearbox linkages
We’re informed that all parts used in the restoration were either original or factory correct reproductions

Summary

Evidently, no screw head has been left unturned when it comes to the restoration of this Autobianchi. If you’re after a hot hatch with real pedigree, then this Abarth most certainly fits the bill.
