THE INTERIOR

• Original condition.
• The interior of the Mercedes-Benz 500 SL presents very well. 
• Both the front and rear look in good order, with all sets showing minimal wear to either the bolsters or cushions. 
• Heated front seats are said to be working on both the driver’s and passenger’s side.
• Door cards, dashboard and headlining look to be in good order with no significant scuffs or rips. 
• The carpet, as well as the upholstery with the car, looks great with no signs of discolouration or wearing that we noticed. 
• All the gauges, switches and electronics within the vehicle are said to be working as they should do.
• The chrome work within the SL looks great, still really lustrous and complements the grey interior really well. 

THE EXTERIOR

• Great overall condition.
• The front of the car is free from imperfections such as stone chips with the lower front valance showing no defects. 
• The body panels look nice and straight with no signs of damage or corrosion that we noticed. 
• Brightwork around the car is in excellent condition. There are no signs of any corrosion or pitting with the front grille in particular looking luminous. 
• Headlight lenses are clean, bright and free from sun damage. 
• Mercedes-Benz branding is present and correct and shows no signs of ageing or pitting where the 500SL badge is concerned. 
• Glass and trim around the car is inline with the rest of the vehicle. If we were to be super fussy, the sills are starting to show a slight bit of ageing but that’s to be expected. 
• Underneath the SL shows no signs of corrosion that we noticed.
• The convertible roof is generally in good condition. The roof does have a patch where it has been repaired previously that is visible on the driver’s side. The rear window is starting to yellow but we suspect this is primarily due to the age of the vehicle. 
• There are a couple of little dents to note. One on the bonnet and another on the boot of the vehicle. These are generally minor and in no way detrimental to the structural integrity of the vehicle or how it drives. 
• Hardtop that comes with the vehicle is in great shape. The paint and chrome work looks great with no scratches or pitting that we noticed. The inside of the hard top shares a similar story with the headlining presenting well with no signs of discolouration, rips or tears. 

THE MECHANICS

• 5.0 V8 engine makes this one of the most desirable SL’s on the market. 
• 237bhp is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox. 
• Turn the key and away you go. 
• The SL starts on the key and idles with absolute ease. We noticed no unusual sounds coming from the engine. 
• Automatic transmission, we are told behaves as it should do with no unwanted noises or crunching when switching between D and R. 
• The engine bay is presented well and looks fantastic for its age. 
• There are stacks of receipts that document all the work that has been carried out over the years to ensure the car is in fine mechanical order. 
• During the vendor’s time with the car, he has only had to replace the radiator.
