The Appeal
The W201 190 could have been very different. With the firm’s engineers rather than marketing and sales teams in charge, the car was as thoroughly developed and as high-quality as the firm’s executive E- and S-Class saloons. Aspirant middle managers flocked to it and sales topped 1M.
This Arctic White 190 left the works in September 1989 and is fitted with the M102 2L 4cyl 105bhp petrol engine and 4spd 4G-TRONIC auto box. The paintwork presents well, and we’re told it is original. Inside, the hardwearing grey checked interior looks like it left the showroom recently. All of which is a testament to those diligent Stuttgart engineers. The car remains mechanically factory standard, and cosmetically, the only changes are a set of R129 16in alloys and an H&R 60mm lowering kit.
The vendor acquired the car in 2018 to join his collection. He tells us that it has always been garaged and he has covered only 6,000 miles. The car is said to have been serviced annually, and recent work includes new exhaust and four new discs, pads and callipers. The brake fluid has also been refreshed. The car carries an advisory-free MOT to June 2026.
The vendor says:
“Mechanically sound and reliable starts first time and everything. Odometer no longer works, and I haven't investigated, but during my ownership, it has done less than a total of 6000 miles. This is a factory 2.0 litre carburettor version.
“A great example of the iconic Mercedes W201 with lowered stance.”

Note from vendor regarding mileage to explain displayed and MOT mileage discrepancy:
"The Odometer stopped working about 10 months ago. I bought a replacement dash gauge unit with as close as mileage as possible to the original and replaced the original unit hoping it would rectify the problem. Unfortunately it didn't.

"I have tried to repair the original odometer but all the cogs in the mechanism were extremely brittle plastic which disintegrated. I'm not sure what the issue is now with the odometer possible speedo cable or related mechanism."

Bedankt!
