Very late-registered Volkswagen Scirocco GT2, first registered in June 1993 despite Karmann production ending in 1992

Recently recommissioned, including a rebuilt carburettor and replacement drive belt
A fresh MOT was carried out on 1 June 2026
The Appeal
Two-door coupés occupied an important place in the automotive landscape of the 1980s and 1990s, with few mainstream manufacturers’ ranges feeling complete without one. Volkswagen was no exception, with the second-generation Scirocco remaining in production from 1981 until 1992, built by Karmann in Osnabrück. Beneath its sleek, neatly proportioned bodywork sat Volkswagen’s familiar A1 platform, shared with more conventional models including the Golf, Jetta and Caddy, though clothed here in a far more sporting and distinctive form.
The Scirocco was well received in period and became a favourite among enthusiasts, a reputation strong enough for Volkswagen to revive the nameplate in 2008 with the Golf-based third-generation model.
Late-registered examples are particularly appealing to marque enthusiasts, often representing some of the final cars produced. This GT2 is one such example, having been registered in June 1993 despite production having ended the previous September.
Recently recommissioned following 14 years of dry storage, it is now ready to be enjoyed once again, whether on weekend drives, trips to car shows, or as part of a cherished Volkswagen collection. image.png1.61 MB
