The Appeal

Ford ownership gave Jaguar better quality and the prospect of new models. While showrooms waited for the X300, the firm sought to stimulate sales of the XJ40 with the special edition ‘Gold’ model.

These cars, built late in the XJ40 production cycle, are popular with aficionados because they benefit from Ford’s investment in improved production standards. They are also fitted with Jaguar’s highly regarded AJ6 straight-six engine.

Very few, if any, surviving Gold models will be quite like this one. It has covered less than 20,000 from new, verified by a full service history, and is in superb original condition reflecting that sparing use. A long MOT and recent service tick further boxes on what is undeniably a great example of an increasingly sought-after British classic.
