The W124 series of E-Class Mercedes are one of the most iconic and respected cars in motoring circles that many consider to be the best Mercedes ever built.
They were incredibly well put together and engineered earning a reputation for being bulletproof and being easily capable of racking up a million miles with regular maintenance and servicing.
This E220 cabriolet was the final expression of the W124 range being made in 1995 and features the four-speed automatic transmission with sport and winter modes together with electrically operated door mirrors.
The current owner, a Mercedes Benz Owner’s Club member and enthusiast, bought the car from its second owner in 2017 and has kept it garaged and used it sparingly, covering only 2,500 miles during this time.
The first Lady owner had the car for its first 15 years, covering low annual mileage and having the car regularly serviced and maintained by the original supplying dealership.
The original purchase receipt shows the car being supplied in Azurite Blue and Mushroom leather and a blue soft top, with optional extras of a front armrest, headlamp wash/wipe, footwell mats and a Blaupunkt Montreux radio/cassette player.
The V5 is present showing 2 previous owners and there are numerous MOTs from the present and previous keepers, including a fully stamped up service book with Mercedes Dealers.
The car comes with 2 remote keys, first aid kit, toolkit, warning triangle and all the original Owner’s set of handbooks.
The quality Mushroom leather interior still looks in great original condition and only shows the patina of its age in the thick and supple leather used on the seats. There is a small scratch on the back of the front passenger seat, but otherwise it is hard to fault the condition of this well presented interior.
The draft deflector originally supplied with the car is included and the door cards, dashboard and instruments are all in very good shape and work perfectly as do all the switchgear. The original Blaupunkt radio/cassette is still there and working, though it has lost a few of its display pixels.
The wood veneer, the headlining and all the carpets and original over-mats are all clean and without damage and the door kick plates remain nice and scratch free.
The Azurite Blue paintwork is still in very good overall condition and believed to be its original paint obviously benefiting from being garaged throughout its life. Hardly any scratches or scuffs could be seen on this car which is a credit to its former keepers. The original and correct eight-hole light alloy wheels, last re-furbished and diamond cut 6 years ago still look in great shape and all wear good tyres.
The body looks straight and true with shut lines and trim all being as they should be.
The original blue hood fits snugly and there is no sign of any water ingress anywhere. The electric hood mechanism works smoothly and all the lights are clear with rubber seals showing no signs of any fading or cracking anywhere.
Mechanically this car has been very well cared for throughout its life, which is borne out by the way this car currently looks and drives.
One look under the bonnet will help reassure the next owner of how this car has been looked after. It’s nice and clean with no signs of any oil or fluid leaks and everything looks as it should.
The Mercedes-Benz W124 E-Class coupé and cabriolet, set a very high bar for the luxury automotive market, with the series continuing to be highly sought after by classic and motoring enthusiasts alike, mainly down to its well won reputation for its build quality and engineering excellence.
