The Jaguar XJS is a luxury grand tourer, and this is the swan song of the XJS line. The Celebration model, manufactured to mark the end of the 21 year production run of over 115,000, is the ultimate version of the car which featured diamond turned Speedline wheels, Jaguar embossed seats and a wooden steering wheel. Think of it as a greatest hits album for the XJS.

The car featured a 4 litre version of the AJ16 straight-six engine with the electronic ZF4HP24E automatic transmission. It also received more aerodynamic bumpers and binnacle style gauges similar to those on the XJ40. Of the around 5000 celebration cars built across all markets, only around 100 UK cars comprising both coupe and convertible models are still currently on the road or SORN.

Current owner purchased the car in December 2008 from Chiltern of Bovingdon and has kept it garaged for the almost 10 years that he has owned it. The previous owner also kept the car for 10 years. Prior to buying the car the current owner arranged to have it trailered to David Marks Garage in Nottingham for a pre-purchase inspection.

David Marks is a foremost expert on these cars and is a major technical contributor to the Jaguar Enthusiasts club. He noted several items needing to be fixed. He then reached an agreement with Chiltern to complete all this work before his purchase, and returned to David Marks for a further inspection to ensure all work was carried out correctly and to a high standard. The car has been kept off the road during the winter months.

The lovely cream and wood trimmed interior is in totally unrestored and original condition, with only light blemishes expected for the age of the car, almost no lacquer peel. The driver’s seat bolster is a bit more worn as you would expect but certainly not in bad shape.

The carpets are also in good condition and original and the boot is in lovely clean condition. The black dashboard and original chrome trims really finish off the interior nicely. Certainly a lovely, original example. Even the boot is in lovely clean condition.

Topaz paint adorns the exterior and is again in excellent and original condition, with its regal chrome trims and silver wheels iconic of the era shod with Michelin Primacy 3 tyres. There are some small blemishes.

There are a couple of small areas of cracking and flaking, and some very light rust under the paint that could do with some attention in the future, and a very light imperfection under the paint on the offside rear arch from a small bodywork repair commissioned by the previous owner after the car sustained a small amount of accident damage.

But overall the car is in a lovely honest original condition and a great example of the Celebration edition. It also comes with the original single headlights in a box should the new owner wish to fit those. As a later XJS it benefits from zinc plating of the body providing significant resistance to corrosion.

Mechanically, it is very sound, starts instantly, and runs very well. The engine bay is in lovely condition and all original with some blemishes and marks as you would expect. It has had two new tyres on the rear and has not needed any significant work done but any work is well documented and no expense has been spared on its upkeep and servicing. The AJ16 engines are well known for their incredible longevity and robustness, as well as the ZF 4 speed it is connected to.

It also comes with the original tool kit which is a very nice touch! The Pirelli spare wheel is present and also in good condition. The car has also had waxoyl applied to assist with keeping corrosion at bay underneath.

This XJS is a very nice, honest and clean example of one of the most sought after iterations of Jaguar's iconic luxury grand tourer. 
No expense has been spared on maintenance, which will provide a new owner with years of trouble-free touring, all wrapped up in a concoction of luxury and style that is so typically Jaguar.
