The Appeal
The R129 was Mercedes-Benz for a new decade. As the much-beloved and increasingly venerable R107 started to look a little long in the tooth, the new Sports-Leicht class was focused on modernising its styling, upgrading its tech, and maintaining the formula.
It may have been a little less imposing and utilitarian than its predecessor, but it didn't lack its dynamics. The R129 felt comfortable and relaxed while maintaining an impressive bite thanks to an array of powerplants that challenged practically every one of its rivals. Nowadays, it's a bonafide classic - and a good, low-mileage example is highly clamoured for.
