The Appeal
When Ford took over Aston Martin, the colossal corporate conglomerate must have been pretty bewildered. Aston Martin were still a decidedly small operation back in the 90s, certainly not pumping out thousands of cars a week, and did so with relatively slim profit margin.
It was the legendary William Hayes who recognised the potential for a higher-volume car, and after getting Sir David Brown set as honorary life president - reassuring the public of Aston's heritage roots - he pushed for the DB7 to be created. The car wasn't just a hit - it was a revolution for the legendary brand, and quickly changed many public perceptions.
Using parts from Jaguar - who were also under Ford ownership - the DB7 effectively updated one of the most successful cars that Jag had ever built, and created a glamorous tourer with the best of them. The car became even more aspirational in 1999, with the arrival of the incredible V12 plant, which was so well reputed that it drew comparisons with prestigious Italian hardware.
Of course, if you want a true 'best of British' car, you'd probably want one of these. Commissioned by Stratstone Aston Martin Sales of Mayfair, this impressive, feature-packed DB7 was launched in June 2002, with just 24 cars built: 19 in right hand drive for the UK (9 coupes, 10 Volantes) and only 5 for Europe. These cars were all sold via pre-order, and all of their owners were treated to a fancy presentation at Thornbury Castle, complete with luxury meal!
Nowadays, the DB7 has matured beautifully into one of the best of the modern Martins - and is being picked up in droves. A well-cared for example is bound to turn plenty of heads, and we're pleased to say this 2002 example is exactly that. Corrosion-free, thanks to new floor pans and a full suspension treatment, this fabulous car is ready and waiting to seduce its lucky new owner. image.png3.58 MB
